Blue Iron has installed soil nail walls for both permanent and temporary stabilization including excavation support, retaining walls, and slopes. Soil nail shoring is a top down method which requires installation in 3 to 5 foot lifts, as well as placing drilled and grouted horizontal soil nails (rebar) at specified intervals.
What is Soil Nailing Used for?
Soil nail is an extremely cost effective way of shoring if ground conditions are suitable. After the nails are installed wire mesh is typically placed against the native soils and shotcrete is sprayed on the wall to prohibit the soils from sloughing.
The major benefits of utilizing soil nailing include but are not limited to:
- Shotcrete walls can be used as a backform for the new structure
- Shotcrete walls are suitable for placing waterproofing against
- Shotcrete can be sculpted to provide a decorative permanent retaining wall
- Soil nails is typically the most cost effective shoring option provided easements and soil conditions are suitable.
